In industrial automation TTTECH Industrial and TTTECH Digital Solutions provide cutting-edge IoT solutions that drive efficiency and productivity. The energy market benefits from TTTECH Zyne's innovative technologies that support new business models and optimization of energy consumption and cost. TTTECH has been a key player for over 25 years, driving innovation in electronics and software to make vehicles smarter, safer, and more efficient, paving the way for autonomous driving.

Aviation

The commercial aviation sector plays an important role in our daily lives. Scheduled flight services rely on large “commercial” aircraft manufactured by the global champions Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, or Embraer. These aircraft have a service life of 20-40 years. The market is highly regulated, and type certification for new aircraft types is a lengthy and complex process requiring approval by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) in the USA, or EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency) in the EU.

Manufacturers face the combined challenge of complex global supply chains, and high safety and certification standards, which make it difficult to either increase production rates of existing types of aircraft or to develop new types. The second challenge is sustainability which requires alternative fuels and eventually fully electric aircraft as well as flight route optimization and improved engines.

TTTECH Aerospace typically provides solutions to large first-tier suppliers such as Honeywell, Collins Aerospace, or Safran. These solutions reduce complexity and enable faster sub-system integration and testing. The sub-systems themselves then allow for better flight control or power distribution with minimized losses. A key strength of TTTECH Aerospace is the data network and data-bus certification know-how gained over two decades.

Rotocraft

Rotorcraft are more flexible than fixed-wing aircraft, as they do not require long horizontal runways but take off vertically. This makes them ideal for locations where space is limited, e.g., in mountainous areas. The downside is that they are less than ideal for horizontal flight (increased noise and higher fuel consumption despite lower travelling speeds and higher maintenance frequencies compared to regular, fixed-wing aircraft). Rotorcraft are used in many different applications, and the most advanced ones are “optionally piloted”. More than half the vertical lift market is in the US, which also operates the world’s largest fleet of military rotorcraft/helicopters.

In this sector, efficient operation and safety are extremely important. As rotorcraft often operate in dangerous terrain or situations, accident rates are higher than in fixed-wing aircraft. However, the same base technology is needed to ensure maximum reliability in challenging environmental conditions. There is also a lack of harmonized rules.

TTTECH Aerospace supplies certifiable and ruggedized digital backbone components, equipment (switches and network interface cards), and tooling (software). The use of open systems and modularity is a key differentiator in this market. Support for “MOSA” (Modular Open Systems Architecture) saves lifecycle cost, especially for complex rotorcraft with several variants for different missions. TTTECH Aerospace works for first-tier suppliers and also directly with helicopter manufacturers such as Lockheed Martin (Sikorsky) or Airbus in R&D projects.

Advanced

The Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) market is rapidly evolving, driven by technological advancements and the need for efficient, sustainable transportation solutions. Valued at approximately 10 billion US dollars in 2024 and expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25% from 2023 to 2035, fueled by innovations in electric propulsion systems and the increasing demand for quick transportation and cargo delivery. The market is also characterized by continuous advancements in autonomous flight capabilities and smart infrastructure. AAM includes various applications such as urban air mobility (UAM), regional air mobility, and small unmanned aircraft systems, both for civil and military purposes.

Regulatory and safety challenges, public acceptance, and the integration of AAM into existing airspace systems are the main hurdles that need to be addressed for the market to reach its full potential. This market is full of new players competing heavily to reap first mover advantages.

TTTECH Aerospace provides mature, certifiable network components and equipment for both the flight and the ground control segment. With these and its support for development and integration, TTTECH Aerospace will bring AAM solutions to type certification faster.

Human and robotic exploration

Human and robotic space exploration are complementary efforts aimed at expanding our understanding of the universe and achieving scientific and technological advancements. We can distinguish three market segments: Low Earth orbit (LEO), as exemplified by the International Space Station ISS, which is expected to be deorbited in the 2030s to be replaced by new, commercial solutions. Lunar applications, which are still largely institutional, i.e., driven by space agencies like NASA, but offer great potential for commercial endeavors, too. Finally, the exploration of the solar system beyond our own moon, think of Jupiter and Mars. This segment is still owned by the largest space agencies (NASA, ISRO, ESA, JAXA, and others) and poses great technical challenges, often to be solved only in collaboration.

Apart from the obvious – i.e., the extremely harsh environments including cosmic radiation and the extreme difficulty of on-orbit maintenance – exploration endeavors are characterized by extremely long project durations and lifecycles. It is not uncommon for an engineer to only work on one or two projects (e.g., spacecraft) in her/his professional career. The ISS was launched in 1998 and was expected to be in use for 15 years, a lifetime that is now likely to be extended to a little more than 30 years. This illustrates how important two factors are for space infrastructure: modularity and scalability, both in terms of adding modules but also upgrading their data backbone.

TTTECH Aerospace has been working on human exploration for more than twenty years, in the beginning supplying digital networking technology to the NASA Orion spacecraft, and now for the whole Artemis® program, where interoperability and highest reliability are key. TTTECH Aerospace’s Gbit/s Ethernet switches for the Lunar Gateway will run non-stop and autonomously synchronized for at least 15 years in a Lunar orbit and offer dual fault-tolerance. In addition to equipment and tooling, TTTECH Aerospace also offers avionics sub-system integration for all relevant market segments.

Launch vehicles and transporation

Space is being used for orbital infrastructure, such as satellites for telecommunication, observation, or navigation, and for exploration. Regardless of the purpose, gravity must be beaten first to propel spacecraft (satellites) into space. Once there, spacecraft typically have their own means of propulsion. However, if they do not or if their propulsive system fails, this opens up a new market for autonomous spacecraft (tugs) that solve orbit control or deorbiting. Valued at more than 15 billion US dollars, the market for launch services dominates, while transporting humans and goods to the ISS or to the Moon/lunar orbit is the second most important market segment, followed by the nascent areas of space tugs and space tourism.

In this market, increased reusability and functional safety, especially for human-rated spacecraft or cargo vehicles destined to dock to space stations, are highly important. Manufacturers and suppliers also need to consider the long development cycles.

TTTECH Aerospace provides the only fault-tolerant, radiation-hardened Ethernet controller ASIC to programs like Ariane 6 and uses this cost-efficient chip to build compact, ultra-reliable Ethernet switches together with its partners. With scalable fault-tolerance, TTTECH Aerospace’s equipment is suitable for both “regular” launch and space transportation vehicles, as well as for human-rated versions.
