ENABLE-S3 - European Initiative to Enable Validation for Highly Automated Safe and Secure Systems

Project Description

The objective of ENABLE-S3 is to establish cost-efficient cross-domain virtual and semi-virtual V&V platforms and methods for Autonomous Cyber-Physical Systems (ACPS). Advanced functional, safety and security test methods will be developed in order to significantly reduce the verification and validation time but at the same time preserve the validity of the tests for the requested high operation range. ENABLE-S3 aspires to substitute today’s physical validation and verification efforts by virtual testing and verification, coverage-oriented test selection methods and standardization. ENABLE-S3 is use-case driven; these use cases represent relevant environments and scenarios. Under the guidance of the V&V methodology, each of the models, methods and tools integrated into the validation platform will be applied to at least one use case, . where they will be validated (TRL 5) and demonstrate their usability (TRL6). Representative use cases and according applications provide the base for the requirements of methods and tools as well as for the evaluation of automated systems and respective safety.

TTTech actively contributes to defining, designing and developing an automotive Ethernet/TTEthernet Test Platform (hereafter refered to as “the platform” This platform shall enable the test engineer to perform highly automated testing for Ethernet-based networks aimed at autonomous operation of cross domain applications such as applied in the automotive, maritime, off-highway, aerospace, industrial and robotics industrial domains. Apart from an automatically controlled switchable “rest-network simulation”, the platform will also consist of a test case generator software that will support the test engineer in generating suitable test cases for automatic test execution. The test platform shall allow safety and security-related tests to prove the robustness of the network as well as its safety and security performance. Furthermore, the test platform will provide a test case template repository, where the test engineer can start from when generating the suitable test case for the specific system under test.

TTTech is actively involved in the use case SP 1 (Specification & Evaluation), in particular for the maritime (SWP 1.4) and the farming (SWP 1.6) use cases. Furthermore, contributions to the use case SWP 3 (Implementation of Validation Technology Bricks) are planned, in particular to SWP 3.3. for the tools development of the test case development software and SWP 3.6 (Concept/Architecture/Implementation of Test Platform).  TTTech is leading the work for SWP 3.6 developments and is providing special developments for the networks of the farming use case and the maritime use cases. TTTech will provide architectures and network components for an autonomously operating farming machine set-up with three fleets: a harvester fleet, a tractor fleet and a quad-copter fleet. In the maritime use case the project aims at developing means to autonomously operate ships, in particular during complex harbor maneuvers but also en route.

In SP 4 TTTech will support the integration of the networks for the farming and the maritime use cases on the test platform and conduct the tests. In SP 5 TTTech will support dissemination, exploitation and standardization activities.

TTControl contributes to autonomous driving for off-highway vehicles and development of a basic ADAS platform (TTC ECUs, I/Os, (TT)Ethernet backbone). TTControl will lead the demonstration use case representing autonomous farming.

This work has been conducted within the ENABLE-S3 project that has received funding from the ECSEL Joint Undertaking under grant agreement no 692455.
