Safety and security -
two sides of the same coin

In today’s newsletter, we are exploring the twin concepts of safety and security. How does the meaning of safety change in an increasingly autonomous and interconnected world? What does safety’s entanglement with security mean for our systems and networks? And how safe is AI really?

In our latest CEO Update, TTTech CEO and co-founder Georg Kopetz welcomed a special guest: Alexander Damisch, Vice President Dependable Networks at TTTech. Alexander is an expert in IoT and industrial cybersecurity. In an engaging discussion, they shed some light on the dynamic field of safety and security:

How is cybersecurity changing in an increasingly digital age?
Alexander: What separates the past from the present is that systems with different criticality levels have been connected, and this development is here to stay. This is a challenge we need to resolve for our customers because there is clearly a business problem they have to solve and it’s all linked to the trend of connectivity that will even accelerate in the future.

Georg: Absolutely, you could say that the most secure systems are systems not connected to the Internet. But our customers also want to reap the benefits of regular upgrades, and the Internet with cloud services, big data, and AI. The challenge is to balance that with the safety and security requirements. So, our approach is that we build ultra-dependable networks that are both safe and secure.

Safety and security: inseparable

In today’s world, people and technology are becoming increasingly intertwined. Users exchange information with their smartphones, wearables, or even with their homes and vehicles. Thus, the concept of physical safety and the need for data security become almost mutually inclusive, making them a tech megatrend with far-reaching implications.

Cybersecurity in IIoT: TTTech Industrial achieves certification

Cybersecurity is a crucial topic for the industrial and energy sectors and the EU is currently pushing regulatory initiatives related to cybersecurity. TTTech Industrial is among the first companies in Austria certified by TÜV Austria according to the industrial cybersecurity standard IEC 62443-4-1. Here’s why it matters and why the need for certification will only increase in the future.

Creating modern aerospace systems that are safe and secure

The future of aerospace systems is characterized by data-heavy, interconnected systems and the need for safety and dependability in view of strict regulatory frameworks for certification. In an opinion piece for EE Times Europe, Christian Fidi, General Manager TTTech Aerospace, talks about the technology used to build safety-critical systems for modern and future aerospace applications.

Three product innovations that will increase safety in the off-highway industry

At Agritechnica, the world's leading trade fair for agricultural machinery, TTControl introduced three new product innovations that make mobile machines safer, more automated, and more sustainable. Fusion is a new multi-interface and multi-screen platform equipped with an AI accelerator to enable edge AI applications. Volution 144 is a motorized ECU to control small brushed electric motors and linear actuators. Vision 307 is a 7” rugged display designed for use in complex vehicle architectures and improves intuitive user interaction.

#IMPACT25: Uniting for a transformative future

It all started with safety, in the year 1998 to be precise. This means that in 2023, TTTech celebrated its 25th anniversary! We take pride in our past, but our focus is on the future. That’s why we have created the #IMPACT25 campaign. Taking a proactive stance towards the future, we ask: How will we at TTTech, with our team, our innovations, and solutions create a positive impact in the 25 years to come? Over the course of next year, we have many exciting initiatives lined up, each one dedicated to embodying the spirit of IMPACT.
